Grammy, Emmy, and Oscar winner, Gordon Goodwin has just released their latest album “That’s How We Roll” (Telarc) and we are booking his national tour to promote this album. The members of the Phat band consist of 18 of the who’s who of Jazz. Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band is the #1 selling big band on the charts, and has a huge college age audience.
We would love to book Gordon and his Phat band in your area. We even have a “Little Phat Band” (7 core members) , if you feel your venue isn’t quite “phat” enough for the entire 18.
Gordon and the band can incorporate Master Classes, Workshops and a variety of other educational aspects to your date. With the band having the Who’s Who of Jazz as personnel, the educational aspect offered takes on a whole new light. Band members like Trumpet great Wayne Bergeron and Saxophonist Eric Marienthal will excite and add a new dimension to the program.
“Built on a bed of technical excellence and a love for the music, the nostalgia That’s How We Roll generates for the big band era never threatens originality. Indeed, Gordon Goodwin has created a remarkably fresh piece of work that, without doubt, is one of the most interesting of the year so far.”

In addition to performances, they also have several different educational jazz clinics that would fit well with your performance. Some of the jazz clinics, with a brief description, they offer are listed below.
• The entire BPB does a clinic where they demonstrate how they put a performance together. They play a few songs all the way through, but also stop at various points , getting the various band members' comments on what they just performed. They will show how each section fits together by playing a phrase with the saxes only, then they add the trombones, then the trumpets and finally the rhythm section. They will talk about how their experience as studio musicians aids in playing this music onstage. The guys tell stories about movie sessions they have done, or about playing in "Dancing With the Stars." It's always a fun and interactive event.
• Other options would include bringing out 5-6 guys early to do master classes on their instruments.
These classes are usually at a higher level, often high school level, so if they need to appeal to a younger and less experienced audience, they would need to make that adjustment. One of the interesting factors is for young musicians to see how band guys just like them turned their early music experience into a life in music and hearing about the various films, video games and television shows they contribute to.
• Gordon has a master class that he does about composing for animation. He shows the whole process in how to write music for a "Tom and Jerry" cartoon series that he made. Everyone watches a scene without music, he talks about things to be considered in writing the score for that scene. He takes them through an entire episode of "T&J" and if there is time, Gordon shows clips from other shows like "Animaniacs" and "The Incredibles." It's a fun time and a very popular clinic.
• A clinic can be done with a high school band sitting in with them, so that there are two bands on stage at the same time, playing the same chart. This is a great chance for young players to really "rub elbows" with the guys in the BPB. It's unforgettable for the kids and the audience loves it.
• We can also offer an improvisation clinic that they do that is at a little higher level. Gordon brings up 3-4 kids to participate and we get into concepts about learning to improvise. The audience is very much involved as well.
The musicians in the BPB are great teachers. They are positive and personable and are great at communicating their ideas in fun and accessible manner. We would love to discuss the possibilities of booking Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band with you!

Note: We actively promote our tour dates through multiple sources. Social networking is an important part of the process, through our Twitter and Facebook pages.
We also do an email blast to our 5900 name email list, and the date will be listed on the Big Phat Band website, and on the various band member's sites. In addition, if this date falls in the span of our new CD release, we will have the assistance of our label Concord Records and Gordon's publisher Alfred Publishing. Alfred has an extensive data base of music programs and we will be able to direct market to high schools in your area.
